A method of operating a downhole component (for example a battery pack) comprising at least one electrolyte based element. The method comprising the steps of locating the component in a downhole environment and whilst the component is in the downhole environment subjecting the element to a pressure in excess of atmospheric pressure to suppress at least one of boiling and evaporation of electrolyte in the element. The component may then be operated at a temperature in excess of that which would be tolerated by the electrolyte based element if not subjected to a pressure in excess of atmospheric pressure.

L'invention concerne un procédé d'exploitation d'un élément de fond (par exemple un bloc batterie) comprenant au moins un élément à base d'électrolyte. Ledit procédé comprend les étapes suivantes : placer l'élément dans un environnement de fond et le soumettre, pendant qu'il est dans cet environnement de fond, à une pression atmosphérique en excès, afin de supprimer au moins une des deux opérations, d'ébullition et d'évaporation de l'électrolyte dans l'élément. L'élément de fond peut être actionné à une température en excès de celle qui serait tolérée par l'élément à base d'électrolyte, s'il n'était pas soumis à l'action d'une pression atmosphérique en excès.
