ABSTRACT An operator interface system for permitting an operator to receive information from a controlled process and permitting the operator to control the process is described. The system comprises a computer system coupled to receive information from and transmit information to the controlled process, a video display system coupled to the computer system to display in- formation from the computer system and a video keypad system coupled to the computer system to display information from the computer system and to transmit information to the computer system in response to the operator. The keypad system is variable by the operator and is not restricted to any particular controlled process. The system permits the operator to design certain aspects of the control system himself in the field.
