Aqueous ophthalmic solutions containing a combination of hyaluronic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, e.g. sodium hyaluronate, and polyvinyl alcohol are disclosed. These solutions have a synergistic effect on viscosity and provide a statistically significant improvement over the prior art formulations. The solutions are used as artificial tear for the treatment of dry eye syndrome and ocular discomfort and may be administered whenever the use of artificial tears is advisable. The solutions are also suitable for use as vehicle for ophthalmic drugs.

L'invention concerne des solutions ophtalmiques aqueuses contenant une combinaison d'acide hyaluronique ou de son sel pharmaceutique acceptable, notamment hyaluronate de sodium et alcool polyvinylique. Ces solutions ont un effet synergique en matière de viscosité et améliore de manière statistiquement significative les formulations de l'art antérieur. Elles sont utilisées comme larmes artificielles pour le traitement de l'AEil sec et les troubles oculaires et peuvent être administrées à cet effet. Les solutions se prêtent également à une utilisation comme véhicule pour médicaments ophtalmiques.
