A system (20) for making a consistent and uniformly thick resection of the cornea includes a plurality of microkeratomes (22) individually and interchangeably connectable to a controller (24). Each microkeratome (22) has a base that mounts on an eye, a cutting blade that having a cutting edge and an applanator spaced above the cutting edge of the cutting blade. The base has an aperture for receiving an eye therethrough. The microkeratomes (22) have a different size apertures or different blade gap distances between the cutting edge and a bottom of the applanator. The microkeratome (22) is mostly made of plastic, which allows the microkeratome to be used when wet, improving the operation of the microkeratome.

L'invention porte sur un système (20) permettant de procéder à une résection d'épaisseur uniforme et régulière de la cornée, ce système comprenant une pluralité de microkératotomes (22) pouvant être raccordés de manière individuelle et interchangeable à un contrôleur (24). Chaque microkératotome (22) possède une base qui se place sur l'oeil et une lame d'incision pourvue d'un bord coupant au-dessus duquel est placé un aplanomètre. La base comporte un orifice pour recevoir l'oeil. Les microkératotomes (22) ont des orifices de différentes grandeurs ou des intervalles différents entre les lames entre le bord coupant et le fond de l'aplanomètre. Le microkératotome (22) est le plus souvent en plastique, ce qui permet de l'utiliser mouillé et de le rendre plus performant.
