This invention relates to an optical amplifier capable of adjusting the gain curve to a desired shape. This invention also relates to a fiber light source capable of producing desired output spectrum. The method to use passive wavelength filters for the gain flattening of erbium doped fiber optical amplifier is well known. However, the disadvantage with this method is that the gain curve varies depending on input optical signal power, gain level or changes in surrounding temperature. However, the optical amplifier of the present invention provides desired shapes of gain curves at various gain levels in spite of the reconfiguration of optical communication networks or the changes in driving conditions since the amplifier includes an active wavelength tunable filter and a gain detection system. The fiber light source of the present invention operates without external input light, producing spectrum-sliced output light from amplified spontaneous emission.

L'invention concerne un amplificateur optique capable d'ajuster la courbe de gain de sorte qu'elle présente une forme voulue. L'invention se rapporte également à une source lumineuse à fibre capable de produire le spectre de sortie voulu. Le procédé d'utilisation de filtres de longueurs d'onde passifs, pour l'aplatissement du gain de l'amplificateur à fibres optique dopées à l'erbium, est bien connu. Néanmoins, l'inconvénient dudit procédé réside dans le fait que la courbe de gain varie selon la puissance du signal optique d'entrée, du niveau de gain ou des modifications de la température environnante. L'amplificateur optique de l'invention permet la production des formes de courbes de gain voulues à divers niveaux de gain, quelle que soit la reconfiguration des réseaux de communication optiques ou les changements de conditions d'attaque, étant donné que l'amplificateur comprend un filtre de longueurs d'onde actif accordable et un système de détection de gain. La source lumineuse à fibres de l'invention fonctionne sans lumière d'entrée externe, et produit une lumière de sortie découpée en spectre, provenant de l'émission spontanée amplifiée.
