An optical and/or electro-optical connection of two optical and/or electro-optical components consists of structures with optical wave guides that are arranged parallel or essentially parallel to the supporting surface on a carrier plate in the area of the connect point. The two components are secured directly to a single common carrier plate without the use of auxiliary supports, by welding with electromagnetic radiation in the wave length range of about 1 µm. The measures described above have made it possible to create an optical and electrical connection for electro-optical components that can be produced in a cost-effective manner and which is thermally stable over a long period and which makes it possible to couple information-transmit light from one or more wave guides of one component into one or more wave guides of the other component.
