The invention relates to a compact polarization insensitive prism assembly for projection display systems using reflective light valves. The systems comprising a trichroic prism assembly of three coated prisms, and a specially shaped, trapezoidal in the embodiment, beam splitter. The angles of the prisms are optimised for best colour separation and recombining with the least polarization insensitivity. The assembly forms a compact and spectrally efficient optical arrangement for reflective LCD projectors.

Cette invention concerne un ensemble prisme compact peu sensible à la polarisation pour systèmes d'affichage par projection, qui comporte des modulateurs de lumière réfléchissante. Ce système comprend un ensemble prisme trichroïque composé de trois prismes traités et d'un séparateur de faisceau de forme spéciale, trapézoïdale dans ce mode de réalisation. L'optimisation des angles de prisme permet d'obtenir une séparation et une recombinaison des couleurs aussi bonnes que possible, en l'absence de polarisation. L'ensemble forme un dispositif compact et efficace au plan spectral pour des projecteurs à ACL rétroréfléchissant.
