Abstract An optical bus type communication system comprises a bus type transmission line consisting of an optical fiber, a light source provided at one end or the bus type transmission line for sending an optical signal of constant level to the bus type transmission line, a plurality of optical switches inserted in the bus type transmission line, and a plurality of terminal interfaces. Each terminal sends data by switching the corresponding optical switch so that optical signals of constant level are modulated with the data.
