An optical data storage system for recording and/or reading, using a radiation beam having a wavelength X is described. The radiation beam is focused onto a data storage layer of an optical data storage medium. The medium has a cover layer that is transparent to the focused radiation beam. The cover layer has a thickness h smaller than 5 ~m. A cover layer with thickness variation of substantially less than the focal depth, i.e. 50 nm, eliminates the need of dynamic focus control of the objective which is otherwise required in addition to the gap servo. Further a method of optical recording is described using such an optical data storage system by which a static focus control and spherical aberration correction to accommodate medium-to-medium variance is achieved. The static focus control can be realised by optimising the modulation depth of a known signal, e.g. from a lead-in track.
L'invention concerne un système optique de stockage de données permettant d'effectuer un enregistrement et/ou une lecture à l'aide d'un faisceau de rayonnement dont la longueur d'onde est X. Ledit faisceau de rayonnement est focalisé sur une couche de stockage de données de support optique de stockage de données. Ledit support comprend une couche de recouvrement qui est transparente au faisceau de rayonnement focalisé. Cette couche de recouvrement possède une épaisseur h inférieure à 5 ?m. Une couche de revêtement à variation d'épaisseur sensiblement inférieure à la profondeur focale, c'est-à-dire 50 nm, permet de supprimer la commande dynamique de mise au point de l'objectif qui est autrement requise en plus du servosystème à espace d'air. L'invention concerne également un procédé d'enregistrement optique mettant en oeuvre ledit système optique de stockage de données qui permet d'obtenir une commande de mise au point statique et une correction d'aberration sphérique afin de répondre à une variance de support à support. La commande de mise au point statique peut être obtenue par optimisation de la profondeur de modulation d'un signal connu, par exemple, à partir d'une piste initiale.
