An optical device comprises an optical fibre directional coupler having at least a first optical fibre (10) optionally coupled at a coupling region (30) to a second optical fibre (20) such that light can propagate in the coupling region in at least two possible electromagnetic transmission modes; and means (40, 50, 60) for transfering energy between the modes by a spatially periodic perturbation (e.g. a flexural acoustic vibration or an electric field generated by a pair of interdigital electrodes) of at least a part of the coupling region.
L'invention concerne un dispositif optique comprenant un coupleur directif pour fibre optique. Ledit coupleur comprend au moins une fibre optique (10) couplée au niveau d'une zone de couplage (30) à une deuxième fibre optique (20), permettant la propagation de la lumière dans la zone de couplage selon au moins deux modes de transmission électromagnétique possibles. Selon l'invention, le coupleur est muni de moyens (40, 50, 60) assurant le transfert d'énergie entre les modes de transmission à l'aide d'une perturbation spatialement ondulatoire (par exemple une vibration acoustique de type à flexion ou un champ électrique généré par une paire d'électrodes interdigitées) d'au moins une partie de la zone de couplage.
