11 ABSTRACT "Optical device" In an optical device an objective (1) is moved axially along its optical axis (2) relative to a frame (13) in a parallel guide (12) by means of first electro- magnetic actuating means (5) connected to the objective and second electromagnetic actuating means (7-10) arranged on the frame, which first and second actuating means co-operate axially with each other by means of a radial magnetic field which is oriented transversely of the optical axis (2) and transversely of the direction of movement of the objective. In order to suppress vibrations caused by axial reactive forces transmitted from the second actuating means (7-10) to the frame (13), axially resilient damping means (16) are interposed between the frame (13) and at least a part (8) of the second actuating means (7-10). Surprisingly, the movements, of the second actuating means (7-10) do not affect the position of the objective (1). This is because an axial displacement of the radial magnetic field relatively to the first actuating means (5) does not give rise to an axial movement of the objective (1). (figs. 1-2).
