An optical device to perform an asynchronous and parallel processing of a N bits serial stream of an optical digital signal comprises a) a serial to parallel converter which converts said serial stream of N bits into a first parallel pattern of N bits carrying the same information as said serial stream of N bits; b) optical means to produce, from said parallel pattern of N bits, a first two-dimensional (2-D) image made of N rows and M columns (NxM) of bits, each column being associated to said digital optical signal by a predetermined relationship; c) means to perform logic operations on the bits of said first 2-D image; and d) means to send to an output the results of said logic operations.

L'invention est un dispositif optique servant à effectuer un traitement asynchrone et parallèle sur une chaîne série de N bits faisant partie d'un signal numérique lumineux, ce dispositif comportant les éléments suivants : a) un convertisseur série-parallèle qui convertit ladite chaîne série de N bits en une première configuration parallèle de N bits contenant la même information que ladite chaîne série de N bits; b) un dispositif optique servant à produire, à partir de ladite configuration parallèle de N bits, une première image bidimensionnelle constituée de N lignes et de M colonnes (N x M) de bits, chacune de ces colonnes étant associée à ce signal numérique lumineux par une relation prédéterminée; c) un dispositif servant à effectuer des opérations logiques sur les bits de ladite image bidimensionnelle; et d) un dispositif servant à transmettre le résultat de ces opérations logiques.
