A device for removing an information-bearing layer of an optical disc comprises a housing defining a first chamber and a second chamber, a mount to selectively mount an optical disc having an information-bearing layer adjacent the first chamber, a cutter within the first chamber, a drive mechanism operatively connected to the cutter, and a passageway between the first and second chambers. The cutter causes the information-bearing layer of the disc to form particulate matter, and the particulate matter is caused to move through the passageway into the second chamber. The resulting particulate matter has a particle size less than about 326 microns to meet the standards of the Department of Defense and NIST for digital data destruction.

Dispositif pour supprimer une couche support d~informations un disque optique comprenant un boîtier qui définit une première chambre et une deuxième chambre, une monture pour monter de manière sélective un disque optique comprenant une couche support d~informations à proximité de la première chambre, un outil de coupe à l~intérieur de la première chambre, un mécanisme d~entraînement relié fonctionnellement à l~outil de coupe et un passage entre la première et la deuxième chambres. L~outil de coupe produit une matière particulaire à partir de la couche support d~informations du disque et la matière particulaire se déplace à travers le passage dans la deuxième chambre. La matière particulaire obtenue présente une taille de particules inférieure à environ 326 microns afin de répondre aux normes du Ministères américain de la défense et du NIST en matière de destruction des données numériques.
