ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An optical disc player employs a counter preset with a preset value representative of 4 times the distance between an initial address position of an optical head block and a desired track address position. The counter decrements the absolute value of the preset value as the optical head block approaches the desired track. The counter value is converted into an analog signal and applied to a tracking driver which drives the optical head block toward the desired track. The absolute value is decremented by 4 each time the optical head is moved by one track spacing.
