This invention describes an optical disk data reproducing apparatus for reading and reproducing, from an optical disk, data having an address period, an automatic laser power control (ALPC) period and a data period. The apparatus comprises an optoelectric conversion system for reading data and converting the data to an electrical signal; an automatic gain control system for receiving and changing the amplitude of the electrical signal; and an ALPC period detecting systems for detecting the ALPC period in the data and for producing an ALPC period signal indicative of the ALPC period.
