Abstract of the Disclosure An optical display arrangement for time pieces comprises a light valve, in particular a liquid crystal cell, containing a medium adapted to be switched zone-wise between different optical states and a light trap in the form of a preferably plate-shaped fluorescent body. This body is disposed in the direction of viewing behind the light valve and is made from a material having a refractive index greater than 1. The body contains fluorescent particles and has a light-outlet window located behind each switchable zone of the medium. The light-outlet window is provided with an indentation in the fluorescent body or plate. Between the indentation and the switchable medium, in the direction of viewing in front of the fluorescent plate, a light-scattering surface is disposed.
