Abstract of the Disclosure Disclosed is an arrangement for representing images comprising a light valve, in particular a liquid crystal cell, and a fluorescent body made from a material having a refractive index greater than 1 which contains fluorescent particles and has in switchable zones of the medium, coordinated light outlet windows. A drive circuit is provided for switching the light valve. The light vale in its state of rest permits at least the passage of light for exciting the fluorescent particles as well as the light emitted by these particles (fluorescent light). The light valve in its switched-on state is impermeable to the fluorescent light and the drive circuit is arranged so that in the operative condition of the arrangement each switchable zone of the light valve is in a switched-on state only when it forms part of the image background. The main field of use of the arrangement is in battery- operated indicating instruments, in particular time pieces.
