There is provided an optical attenuator which provides almost the same degree of attenuance even when the difference of wavelength of two different kinds of input optical signals is small. Further, an optical attenuator is realized with dopant concentration in the technically realizable range in increasing the difference of optical attenuance of two different kinds of input optical signals.
Selon l'invention, la zone (6a) le long et à proximité de l'axe de l'âme (6) d'une fibre optique (5) monomode possède un indice de réfraction supérieur à celui de la zone périphérique (6b) de l'âme, et les zones (6a, 6b) contiennent un composant dopant de façon concentrée. Ainsi, la dépendance entre le diamètre du champ de mode et la longueur d'onde est augmentée. La proportion de l'énergie du signal optique soumise à une atténuation s'en trouve modifiée et la dépendance de l'atténuation optique du composant dopant par rapport à la longueur d'onde est annulée ou augmentée. Par conséquent, l'atténuation optique d'un signal optique assorti d'une petite différence de longueur d'onde peut être constante, ou la différence de l'atténuation optique due à la différence de longueur d'onde peut être augmentée, tout en limitant la concentration et la zone contenant le dopant à une plage réalisable.
