ABSTRACT This invention provides a separable optical connector that includes two light-transmissive members, each of which has a recess in one end receiving a spherical lens, each of the light-transmissive members having a tapered cavity in its opposite end with the cavity having an inner end, and a quantity of optical fluid therein, with an optical fiber biased into the cavity so that its end edge is engaged with the tapered cavity surface. Each of the light-transmissive members, in turn, includes an exterior surface tapering toward its inner end and complementarily engaging a tapered surface in a tubular member receiving it. Means are provided for removably interconnecting the tubular members. 14
