OPTICAL FIBER EVANESCENT GRATING REFLECTOR Abstract of the Disclosure A periodic grating structure is placed on a facing surface formed on an optical fiber so that the grating structure is within a portion of the evanescent field of an optical signal propagating through the optical fiber. The optical fiber has at least two propagation modes, and the spatial periodicity of the grating structure cause the optical signal to be reflected and coupled between the two modes.
