OPTICAL FIBRE CABLE Abstract of the Disclosure An optical fibre cable element (3A) for incorporation in an optical fibre cable (Fig. 4) for e.g. local area networks, comprises a plurality of optical fibres (3) held together solely by an adhesive which has been applied cold and air-dried. A suitable adhesive material is a solvent-based acrylic copolymer system. Preferably the shape of the cable element is a ribbon, but other constructions are also envisaged. The cable element is cheap to make and avoids the heat and pressure of extrusion in the construction of the cable element, thus minimising the risk of damaging the fibres by such heat and pressure. Very high fibre density is also achieved.
