9074 CAN ABSTRACT A connector for joining optical fibres end-to end in precise axial alignment comprising a confining sleeve receiving internally a body of heat recoverable material changed from a dimensionally heat stable form by axial elongation and radial contraction of the body to a dimensionally heat unstable form and subsequently formed with an axial, optical fibre receiving bore. Complete radial recovery of body by heat application is prevented by the confining action of the sleeve bringing fibres inserted end-to-end in the bores into precise axial alignment. The body may be formed with an external annular rib between its ends.
