Attached to a cable having a central strength member is an optical sensor assembly. The sensor assembly comprises a coupler and an optical fibre coil. The coupler is attached to the central member of the cable at a position where outer layers of the cable been removed. A first terminal of the coupler is connected to an optical fibre travelling along the cable in a fibre conduit external to the central strength member. A second terminal of the coupler is connected to a first end of the coil and a third terminal of the coupler is connected to an optical fibre a mirrored end. The coil is supported about a tubular mandrel, which mandrel fits over the cable. The other end of the coil is attached to the fibre in the cable, The mandrel is located about the cable at a position covering the coupler and the part of the cable where the outer layers are removed. The whole assembly is covered with a waterproof layer sealing it to the cable.
La présente invention concerne un ensemble capteur optique attaché à un câble comprenant un élément de résistance central. Le coupleur est attaché à l'élément central du câble en une position dans laquelle les couches extérieures du câble ont été enlevées. Une première borne du coupleur est reliée à une fibre optique placée le long du câble dans une conduite pour fibre extérieure à l'élément de résistance central. Une seconde borne du coupleur est reliée à une première extrémité de l'enroulement et une troisième borne du coupleur est reliée à une fibre optique à extrémité réfléchissante. L'enroulement est soutenu autour d'un mandrin tubulaire qui s'emboîte par-dessus le câble. L'autre extrémité de l'enroulement est attachée à la fibre dans le câble. Le mandrin est placé autour du câble dans une position qui recouvre le coupleur et la partie du câble où les couches extérieures ont été enlevées. L'ensemble est recouvert dans sa totalité d'une couche imperméable à l'eau qui maintient l'ensemble étanche sur le câble.
