An optical film is provided which exhibits increased gain at non-normal angles of incidence and which comprises a disperse phase of polymeric particles disposed within a continuous birefringent matrix. The film is oriented, typically by stretching, in one or more directions. The size and shape of the disperse phase particles, the volume fraction of the disperse phase, the film thickness, and the amount of orientation are chosen to attain a desired degree of diffuse reflection and total transmission of electromagnetic radiation of a desired wavelength in the resulting film.

La présente invention concerne un film optique qui possède un gain accru à des angles d'incidence non normaux, et qui comprend une phase dispersive de particules polymères disposées à l'intérieur d'une matrice biréfringente continue. Ce film est orienté, notamment par étirement, selon une ou plusieurs directions. La taille et la forme des particules de la phase dispersive, la fraction volumique de la phase dispersive, l'épaisseur du film, ainsi que le nombre des orientations sont choisis de manière à obtenir un degré de réflexion diffuse voulu, ainsi qu'une transmission totale des rayonnements électromagnétiques d'une longueur donnée dans le film ainsi obtenu.
