17 Abstract of the Disclosure: An optical guidance system for an automated guided vehicle comprises an optical guideline network including a main guideline and milestones adapted to be installed above the path of the vehicle, a two dimensions optical sensor mounted on the vehicle for scanning the optical guideline and associated milesontes and producing a video image of the optical guideline and associated milestones, and an image processing system also mounted on the vehicle and responsive to the optical sensor for generating lateral and orientation offset signals from the localization of the optical guideline on the video image.
