The presently disclosed invention relates to a method of rapid detection and identification of microorganisms including bacteria, viruses, rickettsiae and fungi. The method involves staining all microorganisms or fragments thereof in a sample. The stained sample is introduced onto a surface coated with a capture molecule specific for the microorganism of interest, and the bound microorganism or fragment thereof is then optically detected. For example, detection of B. anthracis and Salmonella was achieved in times of approximately one minute. The sensitivity of this method is on the order of about 3 cells/µ1.

La présente invention a pour objet un procédé de détection et d'identification rapides de micro-organismes, notamment de bactéries, de virus, de rickettsies et de champignons. Ce procédé comprend la coloration de tous les micro-organismes ou de fragments de ceux-ci dans un échantillon. L'échantillon coloré est appliqué sur une surface enduite d'une molécule de capture spécifique du micro-organisme recherché, et le micro-organisme lié ou le fragment de celui-ci est ensuite détecté optiquement. A titre d'exemple, la détection de B. Anthracis et de Salmonella a été réalisée en des temps de l'ordre d'une minute environ. La sensibilité de ce procédé est de l'ordre de 3 cellules/ mu l environ.
