An optical inclination sensor comprises a mass attached to a housing and moveable relative to the housing as the mass and housing are rotated about at least one axis and at least two optical strain sensors disposed at two separate locations between the mass and housing. As the mass moves with respect to the housing, each one of the optical strain sensors being placed in compression or tension and the compression and tension of the optical strain sensor being used to calculate an angle of inclination of the housing and mass with respect to each axis of rotation.
