ABSTRACT A loop data communications system for the optical transmission of data is disclosed having a plurality of stations, a first fiber optic for connecting the stations in a loop configuration and for transmitting optical data to the stations in a first direction, a second fiber optic for connecting the stations in a loop configuration and for transmitting optical . data to the stations in a direction opposite to the first direction, wherein each of the stations has a first transceiver connected to the first fiber optic and a second transceiver connected to the second fiber optic.
