ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An optical main distributor comprising an elec- trical switching network which allocates multiplexing de- vices with 64 kbit/s-channels to a PCM 30-system and a PCM 30-system to a PCM 1920-system during one connection and a second succeeding optical switching network control- ling a plurality of opto-electrical converters as well as lambda-multiplexing devices, the switching networks being sequentially switched through for connection of optical terminal lines with terminals of different wide band- and narrow band communication systems.
