Abstract of the Disclosure An optical numerical segment display wherein the segments which make up each cipher of the display is produced by plates which serve as light guides. A light source is associated with each plate together with means to selectively block or transmit such light to the plate. The plates which together provide all segments of each cipher are stacked together and are so shaped that the light emitted therefrom which is used to display one or more segments does not pass through other plates in the stack.
