The invention relates to an optical security element comprising a substrate layer, into some areas of a planar zone (2) of which a first microstructure is molded so as to create a first, optically recognizable effect. The microscopically fine pattern regions (21 to 40) in the planar zone (2) are arranged in the form of a moiré pattern into which a hidden piece of information that can be evaluated by means of an allocated verification element is encoded as a security feature.
