A crystal assembly (1) for optical analyzation of samples includes a first crystal member (5) and a second crystal member (6), the latter of which is preferably a diamond. The first and second crystal members, which have substantially the same index of refraction for infrared energy, are coupled together at an optically transmitting interface. This interface may be formed by crystal surfaces in intimate contact with one another or by a third crystal member (85) positioned therebetween. The first crystal member (5) has at least one circumferential sidewall focusing surface for redirecting infrared energy within the first crystal member (5) to and from a focal ring or focal plane at or near the optical surface. The focused infrared energy transmitted from the first crystal member (5) is internally reflected within the second crystal member (6) to obtain encoding specific to a sample in contact with a surface of the second crystal member (6). The encoded infrared energy is then reflected back into the first crystal member (5) for ultimate transmission to a detector (63).

Un ensemble de cristaux (1) destiné à l'analyse optique d'échantillons présente un premier cristal (5) ainsi qu'un second cristal (6), ce dernier étant de préférence un diamant. Les premier et second cristaux, lesquels présentent sensiblement le même indice de réfraction de l'énergie infrarouge, sont couplés au niveau de l'interface de transmission optique. Cet interface peut être constitué de surface de cristaux en contact mutuel étroit, ou d'un troisième cristal intercalaire (85). Le premier cristal (5) présente au moins une surface de focalisation à paroi latérale circonférentielle destinée à réorienter l'énergie infrarouge à l'intérieur du premier cristal (5), vers et à partir d'un anneau focal ou d'un plan focal au niveau ou à proximité de l'interface optique. L'énergie infrarouge focalisée transmise par le premier cristal (5) est réfléchie intérieurement à l'intérieur du second cristal (6) afin d'obtenir un codage spécifique à un échantillon en contact avec une surface du second cristal (6). L'énergie infrarouge codée est ensuite rétroréfléchie dans le premier cristal (5) pour être enfin transmise à un détecteur (63).
