Abstract An optical star repeater for use in an optical star network is disclosed. A photoelectric transducer detects an optical signal and converts the optical signal into an electrical signal. Means are provided for directing a plurality of optical signals toward the photoelectric transducer. Means are also provided for regenerating the electrical signal from the photoelectric transducer. Means are provided for detecting a collision of the optical signal from the electrical signal which is output from the photoelectric transducer means. Signal generator means to generate a fixed signal. Means are provided for selecting the signal generator means in response to a collision of the optical signal, and selecting the regenerator means when a collision of the optical signal is not detected. The selecting means are controllable by the collision detecting means. Means are provided for converting the electrical signal delivered through the selecting means into an optical signal, and means are provided for branching the optical signal into a plurality of paths
