To reduce memory location requirements, particularly in ATM, as many equivalent serving channels as possible should be available. Combined time-, wavelength-/frequency- and space-division switch units are known. Space switching stages alternate with time-slot interchangers and wavelength or frequency converters. Multistage switching network consisting of identical switching modules (10) interconnected in the conventional manner. Each module includes two space switching stages (13, 15), a wavelength converter (141, ..., 14m), and a time-slot interchanger (121, ..., 12n).
