The optical system comprises two optical paths (P1, P2), and an arrangement for changing the length of the two paths including two phase modulators (M1. M2) one coupled to each of the paths. A driving system (Figure 3) applies power to the phase modulators to drive them in the same direction and to change the amount of power applied to the phase modulators in opposite directions so as to change the length of each optical path in a different direction. As a result, the relationship between the changes in the amount of power applied to the modulators and the resulting changes in the phase of light beams passing through the device becomes substantially linear.
Le système optique de l'invention comprend deux voies optiques (P¿1?, P¿2?) et un dispositif de variation de la longueur des deux voies comprenant des modulateurs de phase (M¿1?. M¿2?), chacun étant couplé à l'une des voies. Un système de commande (figure 3) applique un courant sur les modulateurs de phase de façon à les entraîner dans le même sens et à faire varier le volume de courant appliqué sur les modulateurs de phase dans des sens opposés pour modifier la longueur de chaque voie optique dans un sens différent. En conséquence, la relation entre les variations de volume de courant appliqué sur les modulateurs et les variations de phase obtenues des faisceaux lumineux traversant le dispositif devient pratiquement linéaire.
