In accordance with the present invention, optical fiber communications systems are provided with one or more long period spectral shaping devices to shift light of unwanted wavelength from guided modes into non-guided modes. Such devices can be used for removing unused laser pump energy, for removing amplified spontaneous emission, and for flattening the spectral response of an erbium amplifier. Such devices can also provide optical fiber sensing systems with inexpensive shift detectors.

La présente invention a trait à des systèmes de télécommunication par fibre optique munis d'un ou de plusieurs dispositifs de mise en forme spectrale à longue période servant à décaler la lumière de longueurs d'ondes parasites de modes guidés à des modes non guidés. Ces dispositifs peuvent être utilisés pour l'évacuation de l'énergie non utilisée provenant des pompes à laser, pour l'évacuation de l'émission spontanée amplifiée, et pour l'aplatissement de la réponse spectrale d'un amplificateur à l'erbium.
