An improved fluorescence monitoring apparatus for fluorescent emission from a sample in response to sample irradiation by an emission beam is disclosed. The apparatus employs a sample tube having surface roughness characteristics which substantially reduce background fluorescence emission due to contamination of the tube holder in the apparatus. Also disclosed is a method of reducing such background, by texturing of a sample tube to produce desired roughness characteristics.

Appareil amélioré pour l'observation de l'émission fluorescente d'un échantillon en réaction à son irradiation par un faisceau de rayonnement. L'appareil emploi un tube à échantillon dont la rugosité de surface réduit substantiellement la fluorescence d'arrière-plan due à la contamination du porte-tube dans l'appareil. L'invention comporte aussi une méthode pour réduire cet arrière-plan par texturation du tube à échantillon en vue de produire la rugosité voulue.
