The invention concerns an optical velocimetric detector, including a means of illuminating a measuring space through which particles may pass, and optical detection devices to produce an electrical signal x(t) in response to the passage of a particle through the illuminated space. Also includes devices to extract from the electrical signal representative data concerning the velocity v of particles, and specifically to: convert the electrical signal x(t) to a complex electrical signal ~(t); establish an autocorrelation function r~(m) of the signal x(t); and to estimate the velocity v from the calculation of the phase .PHI.~(m) of the function r~(m).

L'invention concerne une sonde vélocimétrique optique comprenant des moyens pour éclairer un volume de mesure dans lequel peuvent passer des particules, et des moyens de détection optique pour produire un signal électrique x(t) en réponse au passage d'une particule dans le volume éclairé. Elle comprend également des moyens pour extraire des informations représentatives de la vitesse v de particules, à partir du signal électrique, ces moyens comportant notamment: - des moyens pour convertir le signal électrique x(t) en signal électrique complexe ~(t), - des moyens pour établir une fonction autocorrélation r~(m) du signal x(t), - des moyens pour estimer la vitesse v à partir du calcul de la phase .PHI.~(m) de la fonction r~ (m).
