The invention relates to an optical wave guide and to a fiber optic insulator. The optical wave guide rotating the polarization plane of a radiation coupled into said plane consists of a Faraday effect fiber core (11), a fiber sheath (3) and a coating (5) that generates a permanent magnetic field and concentrically covers the YIG-doted fiber core (11). The outer coating (5) is produced from a material that has magnetic properties or that can be magnetized. The magnetic coating consists of two half-shells (7, 9).
