ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to optically active 1,2-bis-(diphenyl-phosphino) compounds having the general formula Image wherein Ph represents a phenyl radical and R represents a straight- chain or branched alkyl radical containing 2 to 20 carbon atoms or a benzyl radical. Compounds wherein R represents an isopropyl or a benzyl radical are particularly preferred. These compounds may serve as chiral ligands in noble metal complexes, particularly in rhodium complexes, which can be used as catalysts for the homogeneous asymmetric hydrogenation of pro-chiral unsaturated compounds.
