An optically active .beta.- aminoalkoxyborane complex of formula (I), wherein R1 is C1-C8 alkyl, C3-C7 cy- cloalkyl, C7-C11 aralkyl or C6-C10 aryl, R2 is hydro- gen, C1-C8 alkyl, C3-C7 cy- cloalkyl or C7-C11 aralkyl, or R1 and R2 together form (CH2)n wherein n is 3 or 4, and Ar is naphthyl, anthryl or phenanthryl, which may be substituted by from 1 to 3 substituents selected from the group consisting of halogen, nitro, C1-C6 alkyl, C3-C7 cycloalkyl, C2-C6 alkenyl, C2-C6 alkynyl, C7-C11 aralkyl, C6-C10 aryl, C1-C6 alkoxy and styrene polymer substituents.
