The invention relates to optically active pyrimidinyl- or triazinyl-oxy (or -thio) carboxylic acid derivatives of the formula (I) Image (I) in which X, Y, R1, R2, R3 and R4 are as defined in claim 1, in an an enantiomeric purity of the L form of greater than zero. The compounds of the formula (I) according to the inven- tion have an outstanding herbicidal activity against a broad range of harmful plants.
