ABSTRACT . A remote control system including an optical transmitter, an optical receiver and means such as an optic fibre cable permitting light transmission between the transmitter and receiver. A parallel-in serial-out binary shift register feeds the transmitter and receives input applying selected binary information to individual columns of the shift register. A first clock drives this shift register after a seat of a trigger pulse to cycle and read the state of the columns of the first register to output a pulse train to the transmitter corresponding in sequence to the state of the columns. A serial-in parallel-out binary second shift register is connected to the receiver and under the action of a second clock outputs signals corresponding to respective pulses of the train at corresponding respective outputs of the second register. A latcher stores the respective outputs upon receipt of a strobe pulse and feeds respective operative means for effecting action in accordance with the output from the latcher and corresponding to the respective inputs to the first shift register.
