A test strip is provided for determining the presence or quantity of an analyte in a liquid by inserting the strip into an optical reading apparatus. The test strip is provided with an orientation index zone having a reflectance that contrasts with the reflectance of areas contiguous thereto and such orientation index zone is employed to affirm that the test strip has not been inserted upside down with respect to the apparatus.

Une bandelette d'essai permet de déterminer la présence ou la quantité d'un analyte dans un liquide par insertion de la bandelette dans un appareil de lecture optique. Cette bandelette est pourvue d'une zone repère d'orientation présentant un facteur de réflexion qui diffère de celui des zones contiguës. On utilise cette zone repère afin de s'assurer que la bandelette n'a pas été introduite à l'envers dans un appareil.
