A method and apparatus for determining radiation absorbed dose using optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) in dental enamel. The invention is based on the determination that OSL can be induced in dental enamel and can be used for determining absorbed radiation dose, for example during unmonitored x-rays, or accidental exposures to ionizing radiation. In particular, it has been discovered that there is a dose dependent OSL in dental enamel. The present invention makes possible a non-invasive, sensitive, reliable and portable method and apparatus for in vivo testing.
L'invention a trait à un procédé et à un dispositif permettant de déterminer la dose de rayonnement absorbée, au moyen de la luminescence stimulée optiquement (OSL) dans l'émail dentaire. Cette invention est basée sur la détermination que l'OSL peut être induite dans l'émail dentaire et qu'elle peut être utilisée pour déterminer la dose de rayonnement absorbée, par exemple au cours d'une exposition incontrôlée à des rayons X, ou d'expositions accidentelles à un rayonnement ionisant. Il a été démontré, en particulier, qu'il existe une OSL dépendante de cette dose absorbée dans l'émail dentaire. La présente invention rend possibles un procédé et un dispositif non invasifs, sensibles, sûrs et portables qui peuvent être utilisés lors d'un test in vivo.
