Disclosed is an optimized process for more efficiently and economically carrying out the liquid-phase oxidation of an oxidizable compound. Such liquid- phase oxidation is carried out in a bubble column reactor that provides for a highly efficient reaction at relatively low temperatures. When the oxidized compound is para-xylene and the product from the oxidation reaction is crude terephthalic acid (CTA), such CTA product can be purified and separated by more economical techniques than could be employed if the CTA were formed by a conventional high-temperature oxidation process.

La présente invention se rapporte à un procédé optimisé, et à un appareil associé, permettant d'effectuer de manière plus efficace et économique l'oxydation en phase liquide d'un composé oxydable. Cette oxydation en phase liquide est effectuée dans un réacteur à colonne à bulles qui permet une réaction hautement efficace à des températures relativement faibles. Lorsque le composé oxydé est du para-xylène et le produit de la réaction d'oxydation est de l'acide téréphtalique brut (CTA), ledit produit CTA peut être purifié et séparé au moyen de techniques plus économiques que celles qui pourraient être mise en oeuvre si le CTA était formé par un processus d'oxydation classique à haute température.
