OPTIMIZING FLOCCULATION Abstract of the Invention A flocculation process line has at least one impeller in a tank. The impeller has blades and the ratio of the blade height to impeller diameter is less than approxi- mately one. The ratio of the diameter of the impeller diameter to the tank diameter is less than approximately six-tenths. The optimum relationship of power level to flocculation performance is achieved by operating the impeller at a power level that is equal to a constant times the viscosity of the medium being flocculated divided by the diameter of the tank.
