A pickup apparatus having an array of supports (22) for positioning an array of detectors (29, 30) which generate electrical output signals is disclosed herein. The detectors (29, 30) have sensor mounts with at least three walls, the first wall (25) having a light source (26) and the second wall (27) and the third wall (28) having optical detectors (29, 30). The optical sensors (29, 30) re- ceive light simultaneously and generate an analog signal. Differential noise reduction means reduces the noise of the output. Fur- thermore, a piezoelectric transducer (49) is combined with the optical transducer (35) to provide a transducer apparatus with a wide frequency bandwidth.
