An orbital motion mechanism to produce an orbital motion to driven plate. The plate is driven by a circular cam, there being at least three idler cams of identical construction to the driving cam spaced symmetrically about the driven cam so that the orbital motion is locked to ensure that all portions of the driven plate partake of the same orbital motion. The driven plate can drive a holding plate to hold a plurality of samples to be equally agitated.
