ORE BENEFICIATION ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of isolating the paramagnetic fractions of a sediment to beneficiate the platinum and platinum group element ores therein comprises a differential magnetic filtration separation process, wherein: (a) fractions of sediment larger than about 2 mm in diameter are removed by screening, (b) removal of the ferromagnetic materials from the sediment remaining after step (a) is effected by subjecting said materials to a magnetic field having a force from about 10 gauss to about 100 gauss, (c) the remaining paramagnetic fraction is isolated by use of a stronger magnetic field of force of from about 100 gauss to 20 kilogauss, thereby recovering a beneficiated fraction rich in the platinum and platinum group element ores, leaving a diamagnetic residue.
